"All living beings may grow an extraordinary bone, upon which wondrous arts can be inscribed and carried — granting mighty power: to command fire and summon wind, to roar with thunder and wield lightning, to swallow the sun and pluck the stars, to subdue demons and imprison gods. This is the Shentong Bone. Those who bear it are called… Shentongzhe." — Official synopsis of Shentongzhe (神通者), English translation by this site

Chapter 0: The Author's Note

Before the story itself, Tian Can Tu Dou published a personal author's note (新书感言, "new book reflections") on July 22, 2026, at 1,112 Chinese characters. It exists only in Chinese. Here is what it says.

He looks back on eighteen years of writing. Now 36, he jokes that he has become a "middle-aged typing streamer" (中年码字主播): between chapters he livestreams Honor of Kings, where fans tease him for never quite climbing the national rankings with his favorite hero, Shen Mengxi (沈梦溪).

Behind the humor sits a harder story. He describes himself as a kid from an "eighteenth-tier" small county town whose decision to write for a living was met with doubt — until a ¥4,000 manuscript payment proved the skeptics wrong and launched his career. He thanks readers for walking beside him ever since, and says he is proud that his books left a mark on an entire generation's youth.

He also explains why the new book returns to classic xuanhuan and to his signature theme: a youth rising against adversity. His parents divorced when he was young, and he writes that he tasted both the warmth and the coldness of the world early on — the story of an underdog boy fighting his way up is his deepest personal obsession, and Shentongzhe carries that same youthful fire.

Chinese media quickly turned one line into a trending meme: seventeen years ago he wrote "don't bully the young for being poor" (莫欺少年穷); now he laughs at himself — "don't bully the middle-aged for being poor" (莫欺中年穷).

World Setting: The Shentong Bone

Expanded from the official synopsis (English translation by this site). Details will grow as the story serializes.

An Extraordinary Bone 异骨

In this world, living beings may grow an extraordinary bone within their bodies. It is no ordinary bone — it is the vessel of talent and fate, and the line between mortals and the transcendent.

Inscribed Wondrous Arts 铭刻灵妙之法

Upon a Shentong Bone, wondrous arts can be inscribed and carried. Each inscription is an inheritance, a possibility; the quality of the bone and the arts it bears decide how far a Shentongzhe can go.

Mighty Power 执掌伟力

Bearers command the might of heaven and earth: fire and wind, thunder and lightning. The strongest can swallow the sun, pluck the stars, subdue demons and imprison gods.

Shentongzhe 神通者

Those who bear the Shentong Bone (神通骨) are called Shentongzhe — wielders of mighty power, and the eye of every storm. The story begins with them.

Characters

The ProtagonistCONFIRMED

The protagonist is named Lu Ming (陆鸣) — confirmed by the official title of Chapter 9 (第9章 陆鸣带来的一点小震撼). Details of his origins, his Shentong Bone, and his path are still unfolding in the serialization; this page will be updated as chapters arrive.

Xiao Yan Cameo?RUMOR — UNCONFIRMED

Reader leaks claim the opening features a cameo by Xiao Yan (萧炎), protagonist of Battle Through the Heavens, plus a plotline about collecting Heavenly Flames (异火). Unconfirmed — but if true, it would be the first time his separate book universes openly cross in a new series.

About the Author

Tian Can Tu Dou (天蚕土豆)

Tian Can Tu Dou (天蚕土豆, real name Li Hu 李虎) was born in 1989 in Deyang, Sichuan, and is a member of the China Writers Association. He debuted on Qidian in 2008 and became a phenomenon a year later with Battle Through the Heavens — the book that popularized the "underdog rises" formula in Chinese web fiction and made him one of the most-read online novelists in the world.

Eighteen years in, he remains a chart fixture: seven full-length novels across three platforms, each a top title of its era. In his 2026 author's note he sums himself up with a joke — a small-town kid who started on a ¥4,000 manuscript fee, now a "middle-aged typing streamer" who still writes about a boy refusing to bow to fate.

Why This Site Exists

Tian Can Tu Dou is one of the most-read web novelists alive, but his books are scattered: his early works live on Qidian, his middle period on Zongheng, and his new novel Shentongzhe is exclusive to Fanqie. No platform — and, as far as I can tell, no English-language site — lists them all in one place, let alone in reading order.

I'm a fan who reads the Chinese originals. This site is my English-language notebook: a summary of the Chapter 0 author's note that exists only in Chinese, a translation of the official synopsis, the complete cross-platform timeline, and honest labels on everything that is rumor rather than fact.

This site is not affiliated with Tian Can Tu Dou, Fanqie Novel, Qidian, or Zongheng. It hosts no novel text — every chapter link goes to the official Fanqie page. If you can read Chinese, please support the author there.

FAQ

What is Tian Can Tu Dou's new book?

Shentongzhe (神通者), announced on July 22, 2026 and released exclusively on Fanqie Novel (番茄免费小说). It is his seventh full-length novel and his first on Fanqie. A Chapter 0 author's note is already online; serialization began on August 8, 2026.

What is Shentongzhe about?

The official synopsis (translated by this site) says: all living beings may grow an extraordinary bone that can carry inscribed wondrous arts — granting power to command fire and wind, thunder and lightning, even to swallow the sun, pluck the stars, subdue demons and imprison gods. This is the Shentong Bone (神通骨), and those who bear it are called Shentongzhe. It is a xuanhuan (Eastern fantasy) story about a youth rising against adversity; the plot is now unfolding as the story serializes.

Where can I read Shentongzhe in English?

Honestly: nowhere yet. Shentongzhe is currently available only in Chinese, on the Fanqie Novel website and app, and no official English translation has been announced. This site provides English summaries, setting guides and news — including a summary of Chapter 0 — and links every chapter to the official Fanqie page.

When does Shentongzhe start serialization?

The main story began serializing on August 8, 2026, after the Chapter 0 author's note (新书感言) went live on July 22, 2026. As of September 7, chapters 1–72 are out, at a pace of about two chapters a day.

Is Shentongzhe related to Battle Through the Heavens?

Both are written by Tian Can Tu Dou, but no official connection has been announced. RUMOR — unconfirmed: reader leaks claim the opening features a cameo by Xiao Yan (萧炎), the protagonist of Battle Through the Heavens, and a plotline about collecting Heavenly Flames (异火). A separate rumor claims the book has a single female lead with no harem. Neither has been confirmed by the author or Fanqie.

What is the reading order of Tian Can Tu Dou's books?

His seven novels in order: 魔兽剑圣异界纵横 (2008 debut, Qidian; no common English title) → Battle Through the Heavens 斗破苍穹 (2009–2011, Qidian) → Martial Universe 武动乾坤 (2011–2013, Qidian) → The Great Ruler 大主宰 (2013–2017, Qidian) → Dragon Prince Yuan 元尊 (2017–2021, Zongheng) → Absolute Resonance 万相之王 (2021–2025, Zongheng) → Shentongzhe 神通者 (2026–, Fanqie). No single platform lists all of them — the timeline on this page is the complete one.

Why did Tian Can Tu Dou leave Qidian?

He has never publicly detailed the reasons. What is documented: he published on Qidian from 2008 to 2017, moved to Zongheng for Dragon Prince Yuan in 2017, and moved again to Fanqie Novel in 2026 for Shentongzhe. Anything beyond that is speculation.

What is a Shentong Bone?

The Shentong Bone (神通骨) is the core setting of Shentongzhe, from the official synopsis: an extraordinary bone that living beings may grow, able to carry inscribed wondrous arts — granting power to command fire and wind, thunder and lightning, even to swallow the sun, pluck the stars, subdue demons and imprison gods. Those who bear it are called Shentongzhe. Details will expand as the story serializes.

Is the ¥20,000-per-1,000-characters signing deal real?

RUMOR — unconfirmed. Chinese social media circulated a claim that Fanqie signed Shentongzhe for ¥20,000 per 1,000 characters (roughly US$2,800), a record-tier rate. Neither Fanqie nor the author has confirmed it.
